Materials
Everyday, you are expected to have:
1) 3-ring binder with dividers optional
2) Writing instrument
3) textbook
4) filler paper
Tardies
I will follow school policy. If for any reason your entire body is not inside the classroom when the bell rings, you will be marked tardy unless you have a signed note from a member or the West Morgan High School faculty or staff.
Bell ringers
When you walk into class, there will be a short assignment on the overhead projector or board. Begin working silently on the assignment in your seat or as otherwise instructed. The assignment should be done in the current unit section of your 3-ring binder and should be clearly labeled with the date. On any day, you may have a quiz asking for the answers to previous bell ringers.
Mr. Shaw’s Desk and Items Belonging to Mr. Shaw
No student shall ever touch this without specific directions and permission to do so.
Going to the Restroom
Class time is valuable and I expect you to go to the restroom before or after class. There is plenty of time between classes to take care of your business. I understand that special circumstances do arise, and in these situations I will sometimes permit a student to use the restroom, provided the following:
• It is a genuine emergency and you have to go
• Ladies who have important personal reasons and need to go
• You must wait until I am instructions. If you interrupt me talking to the class or another student, you will not go.
• Any student with special circumstances regarding restroom privileges needs to give me a note written and signed by your parent/guardian
Pencil Sharpeners
Sharpen pencils before class starts. The crank and electric pencil sharpeners are loud and distracting to both the class and me.
Student Movement
No student should be wandering around class at any time. Do not get up to sharpen your pencil (see above), throw things away, hand a paper to someone, etc. If you have trash, hold it until the end of class or raise it up and I will throw it away for you. If for some reason you must get up, raise your hand and ask before doing so.
Participation
Everyone is expected to participate in class and class will be designed to encourage this class participation. This includes answering/attempting to answer questions or anything else that Mr. Shaw dreams up for you to participate in.
Class Dismissal
Class is dismissed by Mr. Shaw, not the bell. The class will be dismissed only if all cleaning requirements are complete, I have stopped speaking, and all students are in their seats.
Late Work
Homework is assigned at the time that is assigned for a reason. It will be very difficult if not impossible to keep up with this class if you do not complete homework on time.
Make-ups
Make-up work for tests is to be done before school on assigned days.
Absences
Class time is very important. For every day you miss, you are behind almost 1 hour in my class and 7 hours total for your classes. It is much easier to be in class. If you are absent, it is your responsibility to make up the work. Ask Mr. Shaw for a missed assignment sheet so that issues can be taken care of and the student can receive proper instructional support.
Notebook
For this class, you will be required to have a 3-ring loose-leaf binder, dividers would be beneficial to you but are not required, and you can make your own if needed. There will be four notebook checks during the school year.
Grading Policy
All grades can be adjusted to reflect variations in grading based on class or individual needs or assignments. Additionally, assignments may also vary as needed.
