Hamby Gets 4,000th!

Hayden Hamby hits rare scoring milestone, 4,000 career points, moves up in the record books
Hayden Hamby of Trinity, Ala., surpassed a rare milestone this month. The 5-foot-7 senior guard at West Morgan High School (Trinity, Ala.) scored 44 points in a Jan. 10, 66-56 loss to Clements (Athens, Ala.), giving her 4,014 total points in her career.

The reigning Gatorade State Player of the Year and Miss Basketball selection in Alabama began her varsity career as an eighth grade, allowing her to reach such an impressive total. With several games remaining in Hamby's senior season, she could move into the National High School Federation's top five for points scored.

In West Morgan's next two games, Jan. 13 at Madison Academy (Ala.) and Jan. 17 against Falkville (Ala.), Hamby scored a combined 70 points, increasing her total to 4,084 and passing Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey (4,075 -- 1977-80) for seventh all-time. To reach No. 5 the Purdue signee will need to need to pass Patricia Walker-Manuel's mark of 4,327, which she set from 1989-92 at Athens High School (La.).

West Morgan's next game is scheduled for Friday, Jan. 20 at Elkmont (Ala.).
