2011-2012 CIP Plan
WMHS’s goal to address the academic needs of its students focuses on improving the reading,
history, and math scores of our students on the Alabama High School Graduation Exam (AHSGE).
We will make these improvements by using the following methods:
Providing students with tutoring opportunities outside of school
Incorporation of Differentiated Instruction and TWIRL (2-3 times per week)
Incorporation of USA Test Prep in the History classroom (2-3 times per month)
Incorporation reading strategies in the English classroom (2-3 times per month)
WMHS’s goal to address AMAO’s and English Proficiency Needs focuses on improving reading
and comprehension amongst our EL population, as well as improving ACCESS scores. We will make
these improvements by using the following methods:
Providing students with tutoring opportunities outside of school
Providing EL teacher(s) with an Academic Vocabulary for core classes
Incorporation of Differentiated Instruction and TWIRL (2-3 times per week)
Incorporation of USA Test Prep in the EL resource room (2-3 times per week)
Incorporation reading strategies in the English classroom (2-3 times per month)
WMHS’s goal to address school culture focuses on providing more one-on-one time to struggling
students and reducing excessive tardies. We will make these improvements by using the following
methods:
Posting available tutoring schedule(s) on the teachers’ doors
Keeping a record of students who come in for additional help
Reintroduce the five-minutes between classes to reduce tardies
WMHS’s strengths include the following:
On-site translator
Student behavior management
WMHS’s weaknesses include the following:
Low scores on ACT reports
Failure to reach AMAO’s
Meeting the proficiency needs of our EL students
